A big gallery this month - there are lots of women coming out to train and of course big thanks to the women organizing workshops, or who thought of whipping out a camera to snap some pics, or hey, if you're not in the gallery because you're just too awesome to be photographed (the level of awesomeness that blows up cameras!) - then sending lots of love your way and keep up the energy :D

Some of you might have known about the efforts to fund raise for the website over the last 2 years as well as the GPK Shop . The short answer is that (the long answer is here) at the very least, website hosting fees need to be paid and it only increases every year. So last week, you might have noticed that the site "disappeared" for a few days - simple answer is that I'm changing the web host, which is now cheaper but it means that there will be an adjustment period over the next few weeks, when links/pages/images might not work...well, we'll see :p So please bear with us and check back in a few days :) The GPK shop is still there, because even though I hate cliched pink "parkourparkour" tshirts, I still love my new GPK tshirt :D
At the end of the day, we want to make sure that there's enough GPK for all the amazing women who want to contribute. The website is shaped by your photos, videos, thoughts, articles, forum posts... I can't say it enough that the website only exists because of YOU, so you're welcome anytime to our table, pull up a chair and make yourself feel at home and there will always be space for you.
Have a good month :)

Countdown time!! 10..9..1 !! Happy New Year!
Whee! Here's another new year and... oh ok so it's not yet 2011 yet but I should practise since my counting skills obviously need work. Ah New Year's Eve... a time to make new resolutions and wonder what happened to the ones you made last year. The year has just flown by and it's been an eventful one! Lots of women's workshops, tshirts (please buy one, it will help with running costs of the site), videos and lots and lots of women moving and training all over the world - in fact check out December's gallery now :)
HAPPY NEW YEAR !
and thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to all the ladies and gentlemen
who contribute and have made what you see on Girlparkour.com a reality.
Much love to you all!!

New gallery and happy holidays everyone!
The end of the year is almost upon us - of course, this is a time for serious self-reflection...but also shopping, parties and lots and lots and lots of food. Did I mention the eating? I meant training. Serious, serious shopping. I meant eating. Training. GPK has come a long way since 2008 when our little website came online. Approaching 2011, we have a slightly bigger assortment of photos because our worldwide family is growing! (Don't worry, we're shifting around chairs and plates to make room at our table ;) )
Gallery here! http://www.girlparkour.com/page7.htm
So a big THANK YOU to the ladies and gentlemen
who make GPK what it is.
who make GPK what it is.
Because your awesomeness makes GPK awesome,
making us a big table of TRULY AWESOME! :)
So while this holidays might mean lots of eating, shopping, exams and parties - there's always time for a little training - whether it's with your best friends or quiet time training by yourself. Happy holidays everyone!Gallery here! http://www.girlparkour.com/page7.htm

October is here! And a really big gallery packed to the brim for your viewing pleasure :)
These past 2 months have been chock full of major events, such as Rendezvous 5 (UK), Apex Invitational (USA), Uppsala Girls' Gathering (Sweden) and the Indonesian National Jam. So happy to say that you can read about those in the Event Reviews and flick through the images of the events (and more!) in September's Gallery.
But wait! There is the Australian National Jam going on right now in Melbourne and still more events coming up including the Apex Movement Women's Seminar in Boulder Colorado on the 9th and the Women's Workshop in Houston Texas on the 16th of October (USA). In case you're not connected on Facebook, you can also check the details on GPK's Upcoming Events page.
If your days are pretty full and you're short of time, then have a read of these great articles for ideas on how to utilize those little bits of spare time to... play :) Some people call it "training" but it's more fun to think of it as "playing", no? The articles are:
You should jump on a table in the middle of a business meeting
Drills you can do anywhere
Stop using handrails, you don't need them
(You can find these quotes in the articles ;) ) Plus, since last year's fund-raising shirt, there is now a brand new shop that at last count, has 198 total products in the US and Europe shops and has something for women, men, kids and babies. It's been a productive month and of course it would not all have been possible without the many women and men who contributed photos, news, blogs, events, articles, videos, ideas, feedback...
So here's to us and please enjoy your month!

August 2008 to September 2010, GPK is 2 years young and going strong :)
This month is actually the 25th photo in the monthly gallery, which means that girlparkour.com has been going for more than 2 years. The first gallery in August 2008 had 13 photos and this month we have almost 4 times that, 51 photos from France, USA, Canada, Sweden, Mexico, Greece, Germany, UK.. and this gallery is actually half of what went on in the month of August because they couldn't all fit in one gallery! Don't fret, pet, the rest of the summer pics will be in next month's gallery so you'll see them soon. But yes, we have that many amazing women out there so ladies, give yourselves some applause! You can view links to all the galleries here: http://www.girlparkour.com/page7.htm
Since 2008 we've managed to get loads of Event Reviews, Articles, Traceuse Profiles, Travelling Traceuses, plus the Forum. Of course all this would not be possible without the women, men and communities out there who make us stronger and grow with us, so..
BIG THANK YOU AND LOVE to all of you who have helped us grow in the past 24 months.
Have a good September :)

A new month, giving thanks and onwards to the July gallery!!
It has been a massive month! First and foremost, thank you so much, to the ladies and gentlemen who contributed photos and articles and reviews and thank you, you amazing people who signed on to be contributors to the GPK News blog. I sincerely hope that this will removes the barriers to letting people directly express what's going on in their local community.
Recently I came across the term "Stereotype Threat", which was first used to describe the results of experiments where black college freshmen and sophmores performed more poorly on standardized tests than white students when the subject's race was emphasized. Ok, cool, but what does this have to do with women and parkour? Well, a related study showed that stereotype threat also can also affect sports performance. The experiment showed that when women were told that their gender was being tested, women reacted differently and the women also had different reactions to a male or female instructor.
In practise, blatant and subtle stereotypes cues are not so clear cut. A blatant stereotype is someone ranting that "women are worse at parkour than men" and a subtle one could be a team mate saying "oh, let's do some balancing, women are naturally good at balancing" Yes, we are and we can also do more than balancing? Poor guys, no wonder they are confused about how to treat women (here's a guide from Rafe Kelley, The Man's Guide to Women in Parkour)
So as you flick over this month's totally awesome gallery , I hope that you are inspired by the women all over the world and perhaps the next time you see something you'd like to try, like a 3m wall run, that cat to precision or 100 pushups and your first thought is "No way, I can't do that", remember what Stereotype Threat can do. And then look at it again.
Enjoy August :) http://www.girlparkour.com/page7.htm
ps: Here's a link to the GPK Forum Post if you want to discuss Stereotype Threat.
